The Solution is Less Pollution
Image retrieved at https://www.sisinternational.com/expertise/industries/waste-management-market-research/In the midst of the worrying waste problem around the world, particularly in the Philippines, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources or known as the DENR has warned that the solution must come from the people themselves. The agency added that proper waste management should begin in houses and barangays. Protecting our planet, and healing what we have already damaged is a task so big, that only together can we succeed. This task cannot be solved without proper Waste Management towards restoring our planet today, and every day.
Ecosystem restoration means preventing, halting and reversing this damage – to go from exploiting nature to healing it. It is a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea. On every houses of the residents of each barangay, the biodegradable and non-biodegradable garbage that is collected every morning to be taken to the waste recovery facility of the barangay should be segregated or separated. Perishable wastes such as peeled vegetables and fruits may be composted and buried in the ground to make fertilizer. And for those that do not decompose, it can recycle waste, thereby reducing, making it more perishable and making the residents' own waste more efficient. The increase in residual waste is also worrying because it is not easy to recycle or reuse so it often ends up in garbage dumps and dumpsites. Residual waste also does not decompose, so it continues to become a plague on the environment. One of the steps that can be taken against residual waste is to meet companies that sell products packaged in plastic sachets. Companies should be encouraged to take steps to reduce the use of plastic sachets. These companies should study how to make their packaging more 'eco-friendly'or environmentally friendly. Another solution I can suggest is for the government to launch a program for proper waste management in the country.
If the proposed solutions are implemented immediately, the worsening waste problem in our country can be prevented. We need to act for the good of our health and the environment. Additionally, ecosystem restoration can be achieved through 3 Rs: Reclamation, Revegetation and Rehabilitation. Therefore, in the present scenario, we must ensure that our degraded aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem is restored as soon as possible by adopting appropriate policy and technological interventions.
