Filipinos Are United And Resilient
There are things we do not expect and can prevent from happening. Such as various disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, tsunamis, wars, let us also include a pandemic and other catastrophic events that can take many lives. All we can do is prepare for it because nowadays the catastrophes are not expected by anyone. But we have to accept that this is already part of our lives and the only thing that can be done is to be prepare at all times.
Many have lost their lives, lost their loved ones, and property was damaged due to typhoon ondoy that hit the Philippines in September 2009 and followed by typhoon Yolanda in Leyte. There was also an earthquake in bohol and it will be remembered that there were wars in Zamboanga that even the inoccents were affected as well as the eruption of the Taal volcano and the pandemic that is taking place today. There are really a lot of things we don't expect like the ones mentioned. But one of the worst things that happened was the pandemic. It started on January 30, 2020. A 30 year old Chinese national girl tested positive for COVID-19. And on March 7, 2020, the first local transmission in the country was confirmed by the DOH in the Philippines. The national government along with local governments responded to prevent COVID-19 through Interagency Task Force or IATF from spreading in the Philippines. The government declared several emergencies including class suspensions, closure of public places, lockdowns, closure of restaurants, factories and other large and small businesses as well as public transportations, and other restrictions intended to slow the progression of the virus resulting the Filipinos to lost their jobs. COVID-19 had a strong impact on the Philippine economy and a lot of people have died due to the disease caused by the virus. There was also a shortage of facemask due to the eruption of the Taal volcano and due to the fear of people being infected with the virus, as well as PPE for the frontliners. The Philippines face a lot of problems in battling COVID-19 but I really admire the Filipinos for their fighting spirit. And this is one of the qualities needed to recover from the tragedies that have taken place in our country.
There are ways for the Philippines to recover from the tragedies that have taken place. First, acceptance. Each of us must learn to accept the painful things that happened in our past and imprint in our minds that they are part of our lives. The only thing we can do is prepare. We must learn from past disasters what are the this we need to do in preparation because we cannot avoid it to happen. Whatever disaster is coming, we just have to accept it, be prepared so that things do not get worse. Even if we do not recover quickly from this tragedy, the important thing is that we have learned something and the Philippines will be even more resilient in the face of trials like this. Every Filipino will overcome every trial we face if we are together and united.
